  1. Is my existing electric service panel adequate?
    • If your main panel is less than 125 Amps or if it is old/obsolete, then you may need a panel upgrade. Ask A-EV Installs about less costly alternatives!
  2. Is it feasible to run a new circuit from the panel to garage or driveway?
    • If your panel is in the back of the house or if your garage is detached, then the cost to install pipe and wire may be prohibitive depending on your budget. Again, ask us about cost-saving alternatives.
  3. Do I need a permit?
    • If we need to add a new circuit/load to your panel, then the answer is typically yes. Requirements vary from city to city. A-EV Installs is licensed in every city in the OC as well as in unincorporated areas.
  4. What type of charger do I need?
    • The answer depends on a) the size of your EV’s onboard charger and b) the amount of space available in your electric panel. Check with your vehicle manufacturer/dealer if your EV purchase comes with a Level 2 charger, otherwise just ask A-EV Installs to recommend one!
  5. What if I live in a multifamily unit building with underground or detached parking?
    • A-EV Installs is one of the few contractors who can do these jobs, which can be complex and expensive. If technically feasible, we will need to get HOA approval and a city permit. If it is not technically or financially feasible to run the circuit from your unit’s electric panel, then we can install an innovative technology called a Demand Charge Controller (DCC).
